On Feb. 12, ASB held a food fair as a fundraiser for each grade level’s proms. The event took place at lunchtime, and each grade sold food from different fast food businesses.
The freshmen class sold box meals from Raising Cane’s for $17, sophomores sold pizza from Prince St Pizza for $11, juniors sold Chick-Fil-A for $8 and $12, and seniors sold boba tea from BobaTime for $11. Depending on what brand you bought from, the money you paid for the food will go to that grade level’s senior prom.
In previous years, grade level teams have raised up to $1100, but on average, each grade makes about $600 from each food fair.
The freshman brand, Raising Cane’s, was most popular as people were talking about it being at the food fair days prior to the fair. It definitely had the longest line compared to the other brands. It’s also currently a “trending food brand,” which makes it more appealing to the students to buy from it.
Sophomore ASB member Arthur Weiser told us about the preparation for the food fair. He explained, “ We have to plan out the quantity and what flavors they order from each brand.” He stated that the brand Prince Street Pizza is ordered at every food fair, and that they have many different pizza options, but they usually only pick five different pizza flavors.
Weiser said that based on previous food fairs,” we determine how many boxes of food we need by checking how much we sold in past food fairs.” They estimate the amount of food they order by checking how much they purchased, how much was actually sold and from there they place the order.
Last year, the seniors chose Prince Street Pizza as their brand, and it sold out. They figured it would be smart to bring it back, and Weiser said, “We are lucky enough that they gave us a discount”, as not every restaurant gives discounts.
Sophomore Lianne Benabou purchased BobaTime because she loves boba and it’s one of her favorite brands. She “didn’t really feel like eating chicken”, and only purchased from BobaTime. Her suggestion of what ASB should sell at the next food fair is “LaLaLand because I’m telling you right now, every girl in school would be buying it. ASB would make a lot of money if they were selling it, or Starbucks, because they are both popular. They should also sell Whole Foods, I feel like that would also have a lot of people buying from it.” She didn’t think that any other food brands were really good to bring.
The food fair is one of Beverly’s ways to raise money for certain things at the school. This event in particular raises money for each of the grade levels’ proms. Students enjoy the different brands every year, and not only do they get to eat and drink delicious foods and drinks, but it’s also an investment to make sure they have a good and fun prom.
