Select members from the Beverly Hills High School Marching Band took to the streets during sixth period on April 5, fulfilling the mayor’s requested to perform at the opening of the Beverly Hills’ water fountain on Santa Monica Boulevard. The ensemble filled the location with their symphonic tunes, including the “Beverly Fight Song”, “Sing Sing Sing” and “Happy”, as the tourist spot officially opened after renovation
From 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., the student players in Music Director Bill Bradbury’s class walked to the location in full uniform. The band’s appearance and playing was followed by an applause from the attending citizens, leaving many members feeling that they are not only appreciated in the school, but a
lso in the community.
“It’s such an honor to be playing at the opening of the fountain because it is such a historic part of the city’s history and support of the Native Americans,” freshman bassist Jude Binkley said.
Binkley was not the only member who appreciated this opportunity to support his city.
“It’s an honor to be playing at the opening of the fountain,” junior trumpet player Nikki Melamed said. “It shows that the city values our band and considers us to be the ‘official band of Beverly Hills’ even though we are technically just a high school band.”
