On the evening of Nov 5, the football field was full of energy for this year’s Color Wars. Each grade came to represent their color: freshmen were red, sophomores were purple, juniors were blue and seniors were green. The music was loud, people were cheering and each grade wanted to win.
Students jumped in sacks, played tug of war, threw water balloons and had rock-paper-scissors games. The atmosphere was fun and very competitive.
Senior Ariel Ettlinger said he came “to represent the senior grade and show who’s on top.”
His friend, senior McLaren Bader, added, “The seniors are going to dominate all the other grades.” Both laughed and said they were ready to play.
One of the exciting moments of the evening was a tug of war between sophomores and seniors. At first, it seemed like the sophomores were going to win; they used all their strength and worked in harmony. But, in the final moments, the seniors executed a series of powerful pulls, sending the sophomores flying over the line, taking the victory.
Freshman Dalia Gluckowsky said she came because all her friends were going. “It was fun, I used to do Color Wars in my old school, but here it’s harder! Especially the relay race.” The relay race is a race where students run in pairs and give the baton to the next team while trying to be first.
It turned into a big moment of school spirit when students from every grade were screaming and clapping from the bleachers. In the end, when the last runners were running to the finish line, everyone was on their feet, yelling as loud as they could.
Junior Ulindu Rajakaruna said he comes every year, “I’m in ASB and I kind of have to be here, but it’s always great. This year was louder, [had] more spirit and more seniors showed up.” The field was decorated with colorful flags and balloons, all made to connect the students to the game and to each other.
Sophomore Romy Illouz said she was surprised “how happy and loud everyone was” and that “the chanting and energy during the potato soccer really showed school spirit.”
At the end, the seniors won and everyone was cheering. Even if only one color won, the night was full of fun, friendship and school spirit.
