On Nov 13, staff, including district leaders, board members, the principal and students, gathered outside the new Salter Family Theater for the ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate its reopening after an eight to ten-year hiatus.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a significant event for our school. After over eight years of modernization and planning for our performing arts program, it was finally open.
Assistant Principal Phil Chang stated, “The theatre is like a mini amphitheatre, it has tiered seating and then it leads to a stage that’s at the bottom. It’s really cozy.”
Chang also stated, “The reason why it’s especially cool is [that] for the last eight plus years, [students] haven’t really had a space to do productions, so they’ve had to travel back and forth to Horace Mann, Beverly Vista [and] we’ve even been at the Wallace.”
Executive director of personal services, Dr. Issaic Gates, stated, “We know that the community has been anticipating [the opening of the new theatre] for some time.”
Along with the ceremony, the culinary arts program served delicious foods such as red velvet cake, tiramisu, salads, bruschetta as well as many other things.
After the ribbon-cutting, we enjoyed the Little Women play performed by the theatre class.
Director of Construction Will Karrat stated that there are over 200 seats, better lighting, and better camera systems. Having the new performance space not only makes it convenient for students and staff but also makes the school feel even more complete amid the ongoing construction.
