Nov. 6 was Beverly’s first blood drive of the year! ASB partners with UCLA to organize a bi-annual blood drive open to anyone 16 or older.
Volunteers checked in at the media center, waited in line to be called and then had a nurse draw a pint of their blood. After, they got free snacks and a $10 gift card to various businesses, including Amazon, Starbucks, Target, Shake Shack, Panda Express and more.
The event was running from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm, and students were excused from their classes to donate.
ASB students were required to get at least three people to sign up and donate.
Freshman and ASB member, Liv Sayah, said, “I wish people knew that [donating] is a fast process…it’s easy and it really helps people. What may take you 15 minutes can save a person’s life.” One pint of blood can save up to three people’s lives.
Senior and ASB member Eliana Naydavood said, “It’s just a great thing to do. I mean, it’s so fulfilling, this is going to someone that needs it and that just feels so good.”
There was a great turnout, and many people generously gave their blood. A total of 72 people donated. Of those people, 41 were students at Beverly, and the other 31 were a mix of community members and staff.
Superintendent Alex Cherniss said, “I’m so proud of the students of Beverly Hills High School and the ASB for putting on such an important event to help others.”
Watching the community band together to support a charitable cause was a sight to see, and we look forward to seeing the turnout next semester.
