On Dec. 5, this year’s seniors continued a 93-year-old tradition by visiting Albion Elementary School. Photographs dating back to the mid-1930s show Beverly students spending the day with Albion students.
Seniors spent the day celebrating the holiday season by giving gifts, bringing Santa and playing games with students. Several Beverly programs, including robotics, cheer, Dance Company, band, Madrigals and KBEV, were at the campus to perform.
Each grade rotated through stations featuring different performances. The cheer team showcased stunts they have been practicing, while the robotics program brought an interactive robot that threw beach balls for students to catch. Dance Company and Madrigals even had a dance party following their performances.
“It’s really meaningful because it represents a vision they can see in their future and what they can do,” Albion Principal Elvira Juarez said.
Senior Lucas Boneti said, “I wanted to get more involved and actually feel like I made a difference in some way. It was really wholesome… every kid would thank you individually.”
During recess, senior Jesse Painter had multiple Albion students run up to him and hug him.
“It felt really good knowing that I made their day and was helping their holidays,” Painter said.
Retired Albion teacher Susan Lam, who worked at the school for more than 30 years, said every student she taught remembered the days when Beverly students visited.
“The experience really lasts,” Lam said.
The event brought together different parts of the community and created lasting memories for both the seniors and the Albion students.
