FEB 19–Beverly’s Academic Decathletes visited the Queen Mary for Los Angeles County’s 44th annual regionals banquet. After long hours of preparation and studying, last Thursday was a day of both excitement and fun.
Decathletes had the opportunity to explore the Queen Mary before the ceremony as well.
“Touring the Queen Mary was as if I [were] stepping into a time capsule. The interior of the Queen Mary alluded to the time period it was from and made me feel like I was in that time period as well,” sophomore Hannah Davis recalled.
At the banquet, Decathletes received their individual medals, and found out if they qualified for state or not–and they did! For the sixth year in a row under Coach Ann-Marie Fine’s tutelage, Beverly’s team is set to compete at the California state competition.

With the scores released at the banquet, official team members are ready to resume studying for the California state competition, which will take place from March 20 to 22 at the Santa Clara Marriott.

“We’re definitely going to be more intense in class. We’re going to have weekend sessions, stay after school for eighth period to do jeopardy and focus quizzes.” Levy said with a smile.
In the meantime, junior team members are preparing for Hepthathlon, which will be happening at Beverly on March 21.
“I am very excited and proud of our team, because they worked so hard and really deserved this honor,” Coach Fine said. “I hope they continue to work hard, and enjoy the experience at state!”
We wish the Decathletes success as they advance to state!
