The boys varsity soccer season ended with a loss to Hart High School 2-0 on Friday, Feb. 15. The game was the second round of CIF playoffs, but was Beverly’s first game after earning a first-round bye.

Going into the game, the team felt confident they had the upper hand and would be able to get the win.

“We were going in with the mindset that we were the dominant team and had the upper hand. We were confident especially playing at home in front of our home crowd,” forward Max Parnia said.

The team was not able to execute as well as they expected. After allowing an early goal, the team kept fighting but was not able to recover and was trailing the entire game.

“We didn’t come out with as much intensity and heart as the rest of our games and it could have come from an over confidence that we developed after going on a 9-1 streak,” co-captain Elijah Lichtenberg said.

Despite the loss against Hart, the team views the entire season as a success.

“The season exceeded expectations and was a total success. The season, as many people know, started rough. We had a tough time getting on the same page, but the season took a turn. As our chemistry grew so did our success resulting in our league title,” Parnia said.

The team is working to stay in shape for the 2013-14 soccer season by playing other sports, joining general conditioning and playing league soccer.

“I’m on a club team, so I’ll be staying active and continue playing soccer until next year’s high school season,” junior Phin Bauer said.

The only thing left planned for the team is the banquet dinner. A date for the dinner has not yet been made.
