The varsity wrestling team reached CIF-SS and seniors Dan Menache, competing at 220 pounds, and Koby Kranis, competing at 160 pounds, reached Masters. The Masters’ match ended on Feb. 19 with the elimination of Kranis and Menache, ending the team’s season.

After advancing through their league finals, the team attended the CIF-SS competition. The three students who made it to the second day of the CIF match were Menache, Kranis and junior Lucas Courneya. However, Menache and Kranis did not advance to state after competing individually in the Masters competition.

Even though Menache did not place at Masters, he was thankful to have advanced forward in CIF the competition.

“Making Masters this year was a great accomplishment as an individual. I am more than grateful to have had my co-captains by my side throughout this lengthy season,” Menache said. “I am also grateful for the great coaching I received from Coach Faintich. Throughout my four years of high school wrestling, he taught me how to not give up on myself and that nothing is really out of reach. After all, the biggest challenges in the wrestling room are not against other people, but yourself.”

Although Kranis believes that the team “did not do that good” in the individual CIF matches, his favorite moment of the season was still from the semi-finals.

“My favorite moment was when I won at the semi-finals because that qualified me for Masters,” Kranis said. “The whole Redondo team, their moms and our team were all cheering for me, and I ran up and hugged my coach. It was a really awesome moment.”

Kranis hopes that more students will be able to “feel that joy” in the coming years.

“I had a great time with the team this season,” Kranis said. “I definitely recommend joining the wrestling team because it’s a great experience, and I’m definitely going to miss it.”
