The Interact Club, composed of a group of students who meet twice a month in Joanie Garratt’s room, have worked to improve the community one project at a time. The group has already participated, and plans to participate, in a number of events throughout the school year.
“I believe all of our projects are important because they all play a role in the community; they all bring about positive change. Interact is works on philanthropic projects within Beverly Hills , the surrounding community, and the District, District 5280,” club president Max Schwartz said.
Interact Club volunteered at the LA Marathon. They created partnerships with the Rotary Club of Beverly Hills and Lupus LA, a group that promotes Lupus research, awareness and education.
The club assisted Lupus LA by handing out water bottles at the LA Marathon on March 27.
“It was a great experience. It was a good feeling to hand out water to the runners and know that they would be appreciating your help,” sophomore Adam Slavick said.
The group’s next big project will be its participation in Relay for Life on April 28. Relay for Life is an “overnight relay-style event” that fundraises money for the American Cancer Society. The group will have members running the track or volunteering.
The club will participate in events such as the Fight Back Ceremony, Luminaria Ceremony and the Survivors Lap.
“I am very happy Interact will be participating in this event; and Interact is very happy to participate,” Schwartz said. “This is one way we can help give back to the local community, which is one of the club’s goals.”
As of today, Relay for Life has fundraised almost $15,000 towards their cause.
